Synopsis
On the island of the rich and have-nots, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and "OBX" co-stars quiz each other on the best lines from their popular Netflix series. Filmed in Charleston, South Carolina; it was originally to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
So what’s not to like!?
After watching all three seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had fun and was entertained: each episode is full of fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts and villain chases, all in exotic locations and with a few romantic entanglements. among the young and attractive cast. Well, I have reservations too.
And of course silly nicknames like JJ, Pope and John B (what’s the B for?)
The events are all extremely far-fetched and unreal: for example, this group of teenage friends manages to escape again and again right from the noses of the police or armed criminals, often in the midst of a hail of bullets, but always unscathed; or how they solve amazing mysteries (such as treasures hidden for ages or the location of the legendary El Dorado) with a flick of the wrist or through bad luck. The young characters are obviously assumed to illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their youthful behavior gradually gets on your nerves, with all the brothers, pals and the inevitable backwards baseball caps. They’re all good looking, but the acting is just right, with Drew Starkey alone really standing out as the troubled Rafe, and Rudy Pankow convincing enough as the resourceful, ADHD JJ.
Actually, it’s more of a series for teenagers
, barely surpassing the realms of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. As a fairly mature person, I probably shouldn’t be watching this at all, but hey, sometimes it’s nice to go with an easy and enjoyable flow without thinking too much. The very last scene of season 3 set the stage for another season, I bet I won’t be able to resist it.
